Il conte Gerolamo Frigimelica Roberti (1653-1732) fu uno dei più geniali architetti veneti del suo tempo, anche se la sua condizione di nobile padovano lo rendeva tecnicamente un "dilettante". Nella chiesa di Santa Maria del Pianto (semplicemente Torresino per i padovani) creò per avvolgere un'immagine miracolosa una struttura arditamente barocca che si richiamava idealmente alle antiche chiese paleocristiane a pianta centrale.
